This intergenerational conversation with four master printers will reflect on experiences and impact of women printmaker-entrepreneurs. We’ll explore how opportunities and support for women printers and publishers have changed over the years, how women have propelled the field forward, and how we can continue to broaden access to printmaking for the next generation.

Book Launch at Printed Matter Chelsea

Join Space Sisters Press for the launch of Hanneline Røgeberg’s Double Blind at Printed Matter Chelsea. Double Blind presents double-handed pen and ink drawings and monotypes made from a set of surveillance stills. The publication includes a short prose essay by the artist and an essay by Faye Hirsch.

Space Sisters Press is a Beacon, NY-based artist-centric publisher that collaborates with contemporary artists, musicians, and poets on projects that look beyond the boundaries of a typical book.

PRINTING PRINCE TOUR SERIES: WITH MARINA ANCONA OF 10 GRAND PRESS
Saturday, May 6, 2023, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM 
Join Marina Ancona for this informal, behind-the-scenes talk featuring a selection of prints Eisenman made in collaboration with Brooklyn-based studio 10 Grand Press. We’ll see how the artist explores processes ranging from woodcut to monotype to cast resin to build images, emphasizing the collaborative experimentation of the print studio. 

This program is part of our Printing Prince tour series. Other tours are led by Felix Harlan and Jane Kim of Harlan & Weaver and Andrew Mockler of Jungle Press. RSVP encouraged; walk-ins welcomed according to capacity. Capacity limited to 20 individuals

Inspired by the central role that the figure plays in Eisenman’s practice, this special hands-on program allows visitors to draw from a live model inside the exhibition Nicole Eisenman: Prince. Seating and drawing boards will be provided and visitors should bring their own materials. All experience levels are welcome.

Nicole Eisenman: Prince is the first exhibition in New York to focus on the artist’s deep engagement with printmaking in more than 10 years. Prince comprises over 40 works—including rarely seen works and new works shown publicly for the first time—revealing how printmaking has been, and continues to be, a generative and vital space for experimentation within Eisenman’s broader practice.

HARMONY HAMMOND: MONOTYPES
Alexander Gray Associates, Germantown presents Harmony Hammond: Monotypes. This exhibition follows the evolution of Hammond’s monotypes, featuring a selection of works from three series that trace her deep engagement with process: the Bleeding Manuscripts made at the Vermont Studio Center in 1997; a series of “near-monochrome” works created at the Anderson Ranch in Colorado in 2008; and her recent body of Grommetypes (2011–ongoing).

This exhibition presents more than 50 works made by Eisenman at three New York–based printshops: 10 Grand Press, Harlan & Weaver, and Jungle Press. Drawn from the collections of Eisenman and their collaborators, the works on view reveal how printmaking has emerged as a primary vehicle for this important contemporary artist to explore foundational themes and ideas central to their work, translating them inventively across media.
